Cruise to Western Caribbean

I liked the last cruise so much that I had to go again. This time my good friends Michelle, Baris, and Seda joined me. We left for 8 days and 7 nights, and as I'm writing this I'm still swaying from the boat. There was lots to do as usual, but I have to say that as a cruiseline I much prefer Celebrity over Carnival. But then again, as Baris points out, I don't get people serving me food and drinks while I'm at home so I should complain. The ship took us to Progresso, Cozumel and Belize. As usual I tried to find the less touristy side of each of the places, and boy howdy did I find that at Belize. The trip was lots of fun, I even danced, (yes of my own free will) I met lots of interesting people aboard. Crusing is definite the most restful vacation and I once again highly recommend it (even if our waiter was really slow and had us there last every night). Although, I suppose a trip to longer term trip into Cozumel would probably be in order after my dive certification class this spring.

Progresso: We actually traveled to the capital of Yucatan (Marida) rather than Progresso since there is much more to do. Marida was very nice and clean (rated the cleanest city in Mexico). The people were nice and the area had quite a bit of history. If I had a few days, I would have gone and saw the ruins, but as we only had 8 hours, I didn't want to spend 4 in a bus for 2 hours in the ruins.

Cozumel: Cozumel was a blast. We went snubaing (I'll post pictures of that later gotta get them scanned first) The experience was so different than snorkling, at one point a school of fish swam by and one of the fish peeled off the pack and swam up nose to nose with me to investigate why I was in his territory.

Belize: No excursion here, I had a massage booked so I couldn't stay long. The tourist area was very nice and clean but had the usual assortment of venders trying to sell you stuff. I quickly got away and went into the real city. The city itself is quite poor, it's very unfortunate and a real eye opener. It reminds me to be thankful for what I do have and the opulence that we live in here in the US. The native people were nice and one told me a bit about Belize's local history. (Apparently August is the time to go, when they celebrate their independence day)
